Work Begins on the Minster Solar Field

With much anticipation, work on the solar field that is to be constructed on the Luedeke Farm west of town has started. Excavating crews have moved on-site and have begun to move dirt in preparation for driveways and the installation of the solar panel racking.  Electrical contractors are to begin the installation of the underground electrical conduit the week of August 17th with the racking contractor to begin installing the racking for the solar panels the week of the 24th of August.

The solar project is a joint effort between American Renewable Energy and Power and Half Moon Ventures out of Chicago, Illinois.  The Village of Minster has agreed to purchase, through a power purchase agreement, approximately 3 MW of electricity that will be generated from the project.  The electricity from the solar array will be included in the village’s electric portfolio and this behind the meter resource will allow the village to reduce the amount of electricity purchased on the open market during periods of high electric usage. The solar array is expected to be on-line by the end of 2015.
