Electric Department Receives Awards

The Village of Minster’s Electric Department was the recipient of several awards at the American Municipal Power/Ohio Municipal Electric Association’s annual conference.  The conference recently held in Columbus, Ohio is for municipal electric systems in nine different states.

The department was awarded the Innovation Award for the Solar and Energy Storage System Project.  The Innovation Award honors municipal owned utilities that have completed an innovative and/or unique project.  The project undertaken by the Village was the first solar project combined with an energy storage system to be built in the United States by a public power provider.

The department was the recipient of a Safety Award in the transmission and distribution category.  The annual safety award is given to communities that have no time lost because of reportable injuries or accident.  From June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016, the department worked a total of 12,442 hours without a reportable injury or accident.

Finally, one of the employees of the department was the winner of the Public Power Hard Hat Safety Award.  This award is given to an individual who shows adherence to on-the-job safety procedures and promotes electric safety within their department.  The recipient of the Hard Hat Safety Award will be announced and presented an award at a later date.
