Fourth Street Heritage Hunt Begins

The Village is looking for your favorite memories of life on Fourth Street! These memories will be used to inspire permanent art installations along Fourth Street as a part of the Streetscape project. The plan for the art pieces will be unveiled at the 2010 Oktoberfest, along with the story that inspired each piece and credit to those submitting the story. We are interested in recent memories, as well as those from the distant past - even memories passed to you from those you knew long ago. Here are just a couple of examples to get you started:

  1. Buying candy after school at H & S
  2. Watching movies at the Crescent Theatre
  3. Ice skating on the canal

Fire Hydrant Flushing Schedule

The Minster-Jackson Township Fire Department will be testing fire hydrants July 19, 20, 26 and 27, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until dusk. Testing will start on the west side of Minster and will move east.

Residents may notice a discoloration in their water and may want to refrain from doing laundry during these times.

Village to Accept Sealed Bids for House Moving

Sealed bids to purchase the house at 15 North Main Street, Minster Ohio will be received by the Village of Minster at 5 W. Fourth St., until 10:00 a.m. on August 20, 2010.

The purchaser of the house would be responsible for physically moving the house from its current location by November 1, 2010.

The Bidding Documents which include specifications may be examined and obtained at the Village Administrative Offices, 5 W. Fourth Street, Minster, Ohio 45865 or available for download here.

Bids must be signed and submitted on the bidding forms included in the Bidding Documents, sealed in an envelope.

No BIDDER shall withdraw his bid within 60 days after the actual opening thereof.

Each bidder must deposit with his/her bid, security in the amount, form and subject to the conditions provided in the General Specifications.

The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all Bids, waive irregularities in any Bid, and to accept any Bid which is deemed by Owner to be most favorable to the Owner.

Zoning Board to Hold Public Meeting

The Minster Board of Zoning Appeals will conduct a public hearing on July 13, 2010 in the Village of Minster Council Chambers located at 5 West Fourth Street, Minster, Ohio at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the public meeting is to consider the following:

  1. Modification of a Home Occupational Conditional Use Permit to a Conditional Use Permit for Craig Oldiges of 126 North Paris Street. Mr. Oldiges applied for and received a Home Occupational Conditional Use Permit at the June Zoning Board meeting. At that time Mr. Oldiges indicated that he wanted to operate the business from his outbuildings rather than his home. In this situation a Home Occupational Conditional Use Permit would not be needed but a Conditional Use Permit to operate an athletic facilities company from his outbuildings would need to be obtained.
  2. A variance request by John and Beth Dues of 24 North Hanover to construct a detached accessory building with a height of 20 feet. According to the Village of Minster Zoning Code, the height limit for accessory buildings in a residential district is 15'; therefore a 5 foot variance would be required.

Copies of the requests and plans are available for review at the Village of Minster Administrative Offices.

Any person wishing to comment on the proposed requests may attend the meting or call the Zoning Administrator or a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Village Office Closed Monday, July 5th

Village Administrative Offices will be closed Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day. If you need to report a utility outage, please contact the Minster Police Department. Offices will re-open Tuesday, July 6th.

Zoning Board Public Hearing Notice

The Minster Board of Zoning Appeals will conduct a public hearing on June 8, 2010 in the Village of Minster Council Chambers located at 5 West Fourth Street, Minster, Ohio at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the public meeting is to consider the following:

  1. Home Occupational Conditional Use Permit Request by Craig Oldiges of 126 North Paris Street to operate an athletic facilities company. The business will be operating out of the home and outbuildings at 126 North Paris Street, however; most services are performed off-site.

Single Lane Closures on SR 66 and SR 119

ODOT has announced single lane closures will be in effect on SR 66 at mile marker 1 through Minster beginning Monday, May 10th at 7 am. Single lane closures will also be in effect on SR 119 at mile marker 5 through Minster beginning Monday, May 10th at 7 am. These lane closures will take place daily between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm. Both routes are scheduled to reopen lanes Wednesday, June 30th at 4 pm. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction of SR 66 and SR 119 at all times by the use of flaggers.

These closures are due to crews making pavement repairs and installing curb ramps in that area.

Arrow boards, signs and flaggers will be in place prior to the work zone to alert motorists of the upcoming lane closures.

Law enforcement will be on hand to monitor traffic flow.

ODOT has a "Target: Zero" goal for any and all safety hazards. To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.

All work is weather permitting.

Minster Pool Announcements

The Minster Swimming Pool will open for the season on Monday, May 31st at 1:00pm. The pool will be open from 1:00pm until 9:00pm Sunday through Friday. On Saturday, the hours are 1:00pm until 5:00pm.

Season passes for the pool will be on sale starting May 10th and will be on sale from 9 a.m. until 12:30 pm and 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily Monday through Friday . Once the pool opens on May 31st, passes may be purchased during regular pool hours. The cost of the passes is: $75.00 for a family pass and $50.00 for an individual pass. Daily admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 2 years of age and older.

Swimming lessons will be taught again this summer. The lessons will run in two blocks beginning in June. The price of the lesson will be $30.00 per child. We also offer a Kinderkamp for children ages 3 to 5. This is also offered in two week sessions from 10:00am until 12:45 pm. The cost of this service is $40.00 per child. Sign up for lessons and Kinderkamp will begin on May 10th when the season passes go on sale.

Pool parties may also be booked at the Swimming Pool starting May 10th.

Public Notice

In accordance with section 92.10 through 92.14 of the Minster Codified Ordinances, any person owning or having charge of land within the Village of Minster corporation limits shall keep such property free and clear from all noxious weeds and rank vegetation at all times. Such weeds shall be cut every 30 days in order to prevent spreading or maturing of said weeds. Failure to comply with this notice shall result in municipal action to destroy the noxious weeds and rank vegetation with all expenses incurred billed to the property owner or a lien shall be placed against the property with the County Auditor.
